Sad news today…. Farrah Fawcett passed away. She will be remembered by many for her famous pin-up poster and of course as one of the original Charlie’s Angels. I will however remember her for a different reason…

Here’s a step by step guide to getting just a little more enjoyment out of an already fun game.

Step 1: Hop on into any ranked Free for all playlist.

Step 2: Wait for someone to say “Hey guys, wanna do achievements?”

Step 3: Reply “Sure, everyone meet in the middle of the map and crouch”. Note: This works best on either Guardian or Epitaph.

Step 4: As soon as the match starts, run toward the center of the map. As soon as you see the circle of crouching douchebags, start hucking grenades into the center of said circle. Once the first grenade goes off, the jig is up – open fire with whatever gun you happen to be carrying at the time.

Step 5: Wait patiently for your rep to go down due to complaints of “unsporting conduct”.

Sure, maybe it’s griefing, but hey, those d-bags where trying to exploit the achievement system. The way I see it, I’m doing a public service to all of XBL by disrupting their efforts.

Lies!! All Lies!!!

Alright Microsoft, I understand you’re proud of your new browser, and hey, IE 8 is definitely better than any other version of IE …. but that’s like saying a punch in the face is better than a punch in the junk – either way you’re still getting punched. When compared to other browsers on the market IE 8 just doesn’t measure up. Or does it….

BAWLS

bawls-energy-drinks
When I know I’m gonna have a long night of either fixing electronics or playing a game until the sun comes up, I like to have BAWLS around. If you’re a fan of energy drinks but don’t like that bite they usually have, then you should try BAWLS from ThinkGeek. They’re full of that sweet sweet guarana berries and go down much smoother than any other energy I’ve had. They taste amazing, especially the new Cherry flavor.

Not Even For $10K

not even for ten thousand

No Microsoft, I’m not going to use IE. Not even for $10,000. When your browser stops trying to “fix” every webpage accessed with it, send me a check for $10K, and we’ll talk. Even then, no promises.

Mark I Jacket

mark_i_jacketAs seen on Mythbuster’s Adam Savage, this is one bad ass jacket. If I were inclined to wear a tactical jacket I’d wear one endorsed by that guy since he does some crazy shit involving thermite. While I don’t think it’s fire resistant the Mark I jacket is incredibly durable and features a ton of straps and pockets and includes a flashlight shoulder mount.

Exploded Xbox 360 T-Shirt

exploded-xbox-360-tshirtAside from writing for various blogs I repair Xbox 360s to make some cash. As I’ve mentioned before I always love a good work shirt so I just had to pick up the Exploded Xbox 360 t-shirt. The details of the inside of an Xbox 360 are pretty spot on… and believe me I’ve seen the inside of a 360 more times than anyone who doesn’t work at Microsoft should.

space-shuttle-cable

I was working on a faulty computer today that just wouldn’t run the DVD drive for more than a few seconds before powering it down. After some trouble shooting, and a lot of swearing under my breath I determined the problem to be a faulty IDE cable. When I removed the offending cable and examined it closer, I discovered that, along with the usual vlotage and temperature ratings, the words “Space Shuttle – C” were also stamped on the bottom of it. Is it from space? Was it meant to go into space? Should I return it to NASA? If anyone knows what this cryptic tag means please fill me in – I’m dying to know.

inFAMOUS

infamous-playstation-3There haven’t been very many games that have kept me up all night lately, but to my surprise inFAMOUS has cost me much sleep. This PS3 exclusive puts you in the shoes of Cole, a bike messenger who finds himself endowed with electricity-based super powers after delivering a mysterious exploding package. The same explosion that gives Cole his powers also wrecks the city, and the general public is quick to pin the blame on Cole.As you make your way through the game, the plot unfolds through cell phone conversations with your various acquaintances. I’ve heard complaints that the plot was confusing, but, personally, I enjoyed the comic book style story telling very much.

I have grown weary of karma systems over the past couple of years, but inFAMOUS does it in a way that I find acceptable. In most games,  “good” choices involve doing what most people would agree is the “right thing”, while “bad” choices involve burning down an orphanage just ’cause you like the smell of charred orphans. This game replaces the usual cartoon supervillian style of “bad” choices with actions that could be described as simply selfish, effectively presenting the player with the opportunity to use their powers for the greater good, or for personal gain.

With a decent plot and rock solid open world gameplay, inFAMOUS is easily one of my favorite games to come out in recent years.

I Void Warranties T-shirt

i_void_warranties-geek-tshirtAs not only a geek, but a professional geek I think of the I Void Warranties T-Shirt from ThinkGeek as sort of my work shirt. I do in fact void warranties on a daily basis by cracking open PCs and consoles to repair. The symbols on the bottom might look like nothing to the untrained eye, but anyone who tinkers will recognize them as various screws, including Clutchead, Hex, Bristol, Robertson Square-Tips and Torx!

Have you ever gone to your favorite blog only to find that the author had written a glowing endorsement for a substandard product? There’s a good chance the author was paid for that article. It’s called word-of-mouth marketing, and thanks to the “wild west” nature of the internet, a lot of companies have been getting away with it for some time now. Behind closed doors, companies will often approach popular bloggers and offer cash or products in exchange for the blogger making some mention of the product (positive or negative) on their site. Unfortunately, many bloggers don’t have the decency to make any mention of the fact that they were paid for the post. The FTC has finally decided to step in on this issue. They plan to have paid blog posts governed by the truth in advertising guidelines they have set forth which would require the blogger to make it clear that they have been paid for their post. While I agree witht he FTC in principle, I want to see the fine print.
